Eastern Arabian, East Coast Youth & East Coast Championships 2010

Planning for the EAHS/ECYC/ECC is just about complete and things are looking GREAT.

For the first time in several years AHA Youth Nationals is back into July, where it used to be and will not conflict with the ECYC.

For those of you unable to attend in 2009 several major changes continue to take place!! The number of horses, over 400, was a growth of more than 60% over 2008.  The Youth Championship trophy was a big hit with the exhibitors and the changes from Quentin were well received.

As the saying goes, “what have you done for me lately?”  well, for 2010 there is a whole bunch of lately!!:

1) Almost all youth/youth championship classes will be offered as JTR AND JOTR.

2) There will be NO Splits; if numbers warrant classes will be divided and pinned separately

3) Free dinner for the exhibitors on Tuesday afternoon/evening.

4) Barn parties on Thursday evening.

5) Pending approval we will split Sport Horse In Hand to Dressage and Hunter types (NO Cross entries will be permitted).

6)  We have had to institute the early arrival fee per VHC. However, the show will cover the cost of the security fees for those early arrivals.

We need your help in the way of sponsorships as our trophies and awards far exceed the income from entry fees.  The EAHS/ECYC/ECC is a great alternative for a year end show; great  facilities, friendly staff & management, fabulous trophies and awards!!  And DON’T FORGET that while you may qualify for most classes at the EASTERN SHOW, you can QUALIFY anywhere in the Eastern time zone for the EAST COAST YOUTH AND EAST COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS and with the new, first or second place win, qualifying is even easier!

If you have any questions call show manager, Marty Kleiner at 717-507-5474 or check the sites www.EasternArabianHorseShow.com  www.EastCoastChampionships.com or www.EastCoastYouthChampionships.com.

North Central Youth High Achievers in 4-H

PAHA’s North Central District is proud of the achievements of two pairs of sisters in 4H.events.  They are Taylor and Alexis Nedurian of Muncy and Meredith and Bethany Lambert of Forksville.

Taylor and Ali, riding Half Arabian SA Outrageous and Purebred Tearmag  saddle seat, achieved  the unusual feat of winning the 2009 4H Championship in Pleasure Pairs, English, a division normally dominated by hunt seat riders.  They further exhibited the talents and versatility of the Arabian horse at this 50th anniversary event with a crowd-pleasing Saturday night demonstration they had been asked to provide of  4H level 3 and 4 Skills Tests.  In other classes at the show, Taylor was Champion in Saddle Seat Pleasure  and Reserve Champion in Pleasure Driving Horses, Ali was Champion in Pleasure Driving Ponies, and both had good placings in Equitation.  Taylor has a five year history of such accomplishments at the state show, while Ali was there for the first time.

It was Meredith Lambert’s second year at states, and after some third places in ’08, she was thrilled when Half Arabian Sultans Elle took her to a Championship out of 18 in Pleasure Horse Driving, a Reserve Championship in Saddle Seat Pleasure, and a good placing in Equitation

Her sister, 12-year-old Bethany, decided this year to show her Purebred mare Mistrals Daughter in Western classes, not exactly a strong suit for Arabians in 4H, but after placing 4th in Stock Seat Equitation at districts, qualified for states with a win in Western Pleasure, Large Ponies.  In her first year there, and riding amid 22 entries, she came out with no placing but valuable experience in getting a good ride in a larger class than she had ever experienced anywhere.

The calm demeanor and versatility of these special horses and the poise and skills of their young riders made a strong statement for the Arabian breed, not just in Saddle Seat classes, but in Pairs, Driving, and Western as well.

The United States Equestrian Federation Promotes Kristine Phelps to the Status of Registered Judge

The United States Equestrian Federation and the Arabian Horse Association license individuals who they deem are qualified to adjudicate horses and riders at their Class A Horse shows.  These judges are licensed at two different levels.  The first level is "r" or recorded Judge and the second "R" or Registered Judge

Recently, Kriss Phelps of Crescendo Training Centre, LLC of Ephrata, PA was granted a "r" USEF Judge's license in the National Show Horse Division.  She joins the ranks of 50+ judges nationally that have been granted the right to judge these beautiful horses.

In addition to this new license, Kriss has been judging since 1993 and holds a "R" USEF license in Arabians, is listed on the Susquehanna Arabian Horse Association judges list, as well as the Pennsylvania 4-H Horse Judges list.  She was previously a carded 4-H judge in Michigan.  Kriss judges about 10-15 shows and gives several clinics per year as well.

Kristine Phelps is Owner/Trainer/Riding Instructor at Crescendo Training Centre, LLC in Ephrata, PA.  She has been a professional trainer since graduating from Ludington High School in Ludington, Michigan in 1987.  She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan in 1991.  She is the daughter of Henry and Diana Phelps, who currently reside in Ludington, Michigan.

Local Trainer Brings Home Awards from the Arabian and Half-Arabian Sport Horse Nationals

The Arabian Sport Horse Nationals, held on September 22-27, 2009, ranks as the only single-breed sport horse event in the nation offered just for Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses registered with AHA or the Canadian Arabian Horse Registry. Over 550 horses competed at this prestigious event, which named the nation's top horses.  This national event brings exhibitors from most of the 50 states, as well as Canada.  Local Arabian horse trainer, Kriss Phelps of Crescendo Training Centre, LLC of Ephrata, PA traveled to Lexington, KY to compete.

Kriss showed two horses, ST Shaamrock, a two year old grey Arabian gelding owned by Jean and Fred Filleti of Dundalk, MD and Nite Wings ESF+, owned by Kriss to two Top 10s.  ST Shaamrock was third in the Nation on the judge's cards in the Arabian Sport Horse In Hand 2 year old Gelding Jackpot Championship.  Nite Wings was named Top 10 out of 19 horses in the Arabian Sport Horse Show Hack Open Championship.

"Competition was fierce, but these two horses had the quality to compete here," Kriss remarked.  This adds another two Top 10s to the three that Crescendo's clients garnered at the 2009 Arabian Youth Nationals held in July, totaling five for the year!

PAHA’s North Central District Members Successful at Sport Horse Nationals

Congratulations go out to these North Central exhibitors on their success at Arabian Sport Horse Nationals at the Kentucky Horse Park in September.

Three of our pleasure carriage drivers led the way among 17 entries, bringing home half of all the championship and reserve trophies offered in that division, as well as several other Top Tens.  Sixteen-year-old Taylor Nedurian, the only junior whip participating, and SA outrageous won Championships in Pick Your Route Obstacles and Drive and Ride, a Reserve in Working, and Top Tens in Reinsmanship and Gamblers Choice.  Mohamed Knockout went Champion in Working and Top Ten in Pick Your Route for owner Wayne Gavitt and Reserve Champion in Drive and Ride with daughter Julie Gavitt Shaffer.  Larry Bason and Sunshines Amir were the Reserve Champion in Gamblers Choice.

Other members made their marks in highly competitive and very large divisions.  Janet Olena’s Ultimate Glory was Reserve Champion in Arabian Training Level Dressage ATR and Top Ten in Arabian Show Hack ATR and Arabian Sport Horse Geldings in Hand ATH.  Janet appreciates the efforts of Megan Franz and LizAnn Barlett in these successful outcomes.  WV Maltese Falcon brought home three Top Tens for his owners, the Fullers: Dan in Sport Horse Geldings ATH and Denise in both Open and ATR Arabian Show Hack.  Michelle Amrick’s filly was Top Ten in the Arabian Two Year Old Filly Jackpot.  Randy Stoneback and his clients did well as follows:  SF Krypton Khnight was Champion in HA SHIH Stallions ATH with Dr. Daniel Sudilovsky, PR Golden Luxury won Reserve Champion in HA SHIH Stallions ATH with Laura Anderson and SF Krypton Khnight was Reserve Champion in HA SHIH Stallions Open with Randy Stoneback.

North Central PAHA Whips Continue Their Winning Ways

The Walnut Hill Carriage Pleasure Driving Competition in Pittsford, NY, in August proved to be a high water mark this year for the three North Central whips and their Half Arabians among the nine Arabian exhibitors listed in the program there.  Wayne Gavitt and Mohamed Knockout had come to the show with carriage driving successes at two Arabian shows and Lorenzo.  Larry Bason and sixteen-year-old Taylor Nedurian with Sunshines Amir and SA Outrageous had both won many honors at several ADS shows, including My Lady’s Manor, Brandywine, and Lorenzo.

But placing as well as they did at the 240-participant Walnut Hill, which drew entries from more than 20 states and provinces, was a satisfying accomplishment and a clear demonstration of the suitability of Arabians for this discipline.

Participating in the Single Horse to a Road Cart division, Wayne won the blue in the cross country/fastest time class with the fastest clear round.  He also place 2nd out of 20 in turnout and 3rd and 4th in gentlemen’s progressive obstacles and reinsmanship.

Larry and Amir competed among 30 large single ponies and placed in all five classes entered.  His second out of 17 in his cross country/ideal time and second out of 12 in scurry obstacles, missing both firsts by less than a second, were the highlights, but he also won 4th in progressive, 5th in reinsmanship, and 5th in carriage dog with his wife’s SPCA dog Jimmy.

With SA Outrageous in the Single Horse Road Cart Ladies division, Taylor won the blue in a large reinsmanship class and claimed a 2nd in progressive.  A 3rd in reinsmanship and 5th in turnout in the junior division and a 4th in a large scurry class for single horses rounded out her placings.

All three of these whips plan to compete in the carriage division at Sport Horse Nationals in September as the culmination of their efforts this year.

2009 AG Progress Days showcases Arabians

The Arabian breed was very well showcased this year at the 2009 APD.  For an hour, the audience got to see the beauty and elegance of the Arabian Show Horse.  Taylor and Alexis Nedurian did an excellent job showing 15 yr old ½ Arabian SA Outrageous, 9 year old PB Arabian PA Piaggio and 21 year old PB Arabian Tirmag.  Amazingly, the girls each made 3 complete attire and tack changes, showing Costume, Show Hack, Carriage Driving, Hunt Seat , Saddle Seat, English Pleasure pairs, and their mother, Beth, also came out riding to show the suitability of the show horse to also be a wonderful pleasure trail riding horse.  The girls finished by riding in double bareback and waving a grand finish to the audience.    The announcer talked about the history, conformation, versatility and much more about the Arabian horse, much of which was providing by the AHA.  Later that afternoon, the girls also demonstrated on behalf of 4-H, demonstrating the 4-H skills tests to music.

PAHA & AHA were represented in the Equine Building with a PR table and a stall.  Parada was again a wonderful representative.  All 3 days, she stood with her head over the stall guard all day greeting everyone that walked by.  Many comments were made about how nice and friendly she is…and pretty too.  Several other vendors said they were watching her and were amazed by her friendliness and letting children and adults pet her for hours.
